This Sunbeam humidifier is a cool mist unit that uses a wick to disperse the mist into the air. If you need to humidify a large room, then this unit might be right for you. It comes with a large water tank which is easy to carry. It has a digital programmable humidistat. There is an on/off timer and an easy to read display for night time viewing.

The humidifier can operate for up to 48 hours before refilling the tank. This unit does use filters that will have to be replaced at least once a month. So the replacing of filters will make this unit even more expensive.

The biggest complaint about this Sunbeam humidifier is that the auto setting for the humidistat tends to shut the unit on and off every 5 to 10 seconds. For example, if you set the unit for 50% humidity level, the humidifier will shut off at 51%. When the humidity level falls to 49%, the unit will turn back on. It will continue to do this over and over again while you’re using it.

The reason this unit does this is because there is no need to humidify the room if there is already a sufficient amount of humidity in there. You don’t want your room too humid which will create molds and bacteria in your room. Therefore, the humidifier will shut off once the desired level of humidity is reached (e.g. 50%). If the humidity drops below the desired level, the unit will turn back on.

Many people find this annoying. They prefer to have a humidifier that stays on the entire time they’re using it. If you think this will bother you, then you probably need to choose from the other Sunbeam humidifiers that are on the market.

The other complaint some people have is the noise. The noise level shouldn’t really be a problem since it basically sounds like a box fan. Most people don’t have a problem with the fan noise if they don’t turn it up to the higher setting. On the lower fan setting, you also shouldn’t be too bothered by the shutting on and off of the unit.

When it comes to cleaning the unit, make sure you replace the filters on a regular basis. If you don’t, mold will start to form on the wick. All kinds of bacteria will be dispersed into the air without regular cleaning which can cause health problems.

Overall, the shutting on and off of the unit might be the biggest reason to continue searching for a different humidifier. There is no sense in paying over $60 for something that’s just going to irritate you.
